Blackjack has been one of the most popular games for years. Blackjack is not only be played in Las Vegas casinos, but also many Indian Reservation casinos. In fact, blackjack is the only table game in many reservation casinos. Blackjack can also be played on video poker games and on home personal computers. The country has always been fascinated with blackjack.
There are a few tips to playing blackjack. You must first understand the rules to the game. All cards are worth their face value, with face cards being worth ten. Aces can either be worth one or eleven depending on your hand. For example, if your hand is a king and an ace, your hand is worth twenty-one points or in this case a blackjack. If your hand is a ten and an ace, then your hand equals twenty-one and is a winning hand. This hand is not, however, considered a blackjack.
Dealers are required to hit on 16 or under and they must stand on 17 or above. As a player, you must also make decisions on when to stand and when to hit. You will want to hit as many times as possible without busting, or going over twenty-one. However, if you have a high hand such as 16,17 or 18, you will want to stand especially if previous players have had low cards. Chances are your card will be a high card and you will bust if you hit on these hands
The most important tip in playing blackjack is picking the best table. The first thing to look for is the minimum bet of the table. In order to win, you do not want the minimum to be fore than five percent of what you have to bet with. Certain tables are also designed to favor the dealer. For example there are rule variations such as the dealer is required to stand on a “soft 17.” A soft hand is a hand in which the ace counts as an eleven.
As the dealer must hit on 16 and lower, you should therefore hit on a hand under 17 when you see the dealer has a king, queen, jack, ten, nine or eight. If he is showing a four, five or six and you should stand on any hand above eleven. This is because the dealer generally busts on these cards.
You will also want to learn the opportune times to double-down. Double-down on hands that have a ten against a nine or lower, any hand with an eleven, and a hand with a nine. Soft hands with a 13-17 against a four, five or six should also be doubled-down on.
Splitting also has several strategies that should be followed. You should always split eights or sevens against a dealer who has an equal card or lower. You should also split twos or threes against fours, fives and sixes. You should also always split aces. You will never want to split tens, fives or fours. You also do not want to split face value cards.
You should always be observant of who is sitting at your table. There are two key positions at the table including the “first baseman” and the “third baseman.” If the third baseman is either a novice or is desperate, you will want to move on from the table. This person greatly affects the play of cards. He may be responsible for whether or not the dealer busts by the decisions he makes playing his own hands.
