Where to find value in sports betting
Most gambling genres that are not based on luck exclusively, require their players to look for small edges they can constantly exploit. Poker has rakeback, solid binds play and a couple hundred other such small edges skilled players use to generate money in the long run.
Sports betting has its hidden edges too.
Because of the vig bookmakers and online bookmakers take, just walking up to a bookie and betting on one team or another won’t cut it. Sure, you might just get lucky and win, but what we’re talking about here, is how you can generate a more or less constant influx of revenue. Sports betting has its variation the same way poker does. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose, but what you have to aim for is that you win more times than you lose on aggregate.
First thing you need to make sure you get right, is your bankroll and its management. You need a big enough bankroll to successfully assimilate the fluctuations in value you will encounter in your sports betting endeavors.
Next thing you need to whip into shape, is the handicapping. Handicapping can be considered a science in its own right. It doesn’t really matter what I put here about it, it’ll still leave 99.9% of the matter uncovered so I won’t even try. Maybe in some future articles dedicated exclusively to that subject.
The bad news on handicapping is however, that no matter how good you are at it, bookies have whole crews of handicappers working for them who twist and turn their lines until not even the best of them can find value in the matchup anymore. Only then do they release their lines.
These lines can be shifted around later, however, if the circumstances demand it, and that is where you may find your hidden value.

Pinnacle Sportsbook Review And Betting Information
As you probably already realized, by doing straight-forward, common-sense sports betting, you don’t really stand a chance to be a long term winner. You need to find yourself a hidden value, something that you can exploit every now and then and generate some money where few people would expect to find any.

Home underdogs provide for excellent hidden value. People like favorites. It doesn’t really matter to them whether they play at home or away, thus the home court/field advantage is probably one of the most underestimated handicapping factors. Squares will flock to bet on the favorite. Sometimes they do so in an exaggerated manner. This will prompt the bookie to shift his line on the game in question, to make up for the huge influx of squares. This happens because - if the bookie wants to make money on the vig - he needs to have the matchup balanced. Balanced means that there should be about as many bettors betting one side of the matchup as the other. The bookie will pay out winnings from bettors on one side, to bettors on the winning side and keep the juice. In order to achieve this balance, he’ll move his line to prompt people to bet the other side of the bet too. Despite this, many square bettors are so determined to bet the favorites, they’ll ignore the shifting line. That is exactly where hidden value rears its head. Go up against the squares and take advantage of the line.
Whenever you hear about the crowd going unanimously one way, look for the hidden value on the other side. There’s bound to be some there.
Other examples for hidden value would be unpopular matchups. Bookmakers direct their attention to games where the most money changes hands. Obviously the juice will be flowing there. For this reason, they tend to pay little attention for games not many people bet on. The bookie is indeed a handicapping machine, but one with limited resources nonetheless. In order to pay max attention to games which get outstanding action, they divert resources from other games. That will often cause them to give out very favorable lines for unpopular games.
