The Pros and Cons in Playing Online Poker

Thursday - December 17, 2009 | gambling | comment balloon Comments (0)

The game of poker really has reached new heights over the recent years. Not only will you be able to play poker in casinos, you can also play poker online!

The popularity is astounding and partially thanks to ESPN covering it back in the early part of the 21st century. Granted, over the years people have come together throughout the evening to play poker, but it’s nothing like it ever was before. Nowadays it’s possible to hear stories about friends playing every week and watching some of the best world poker tour events.

Online venues for poker, or poker rooms, started with free online poker matches hosted by IRC poker. The first venture to really let poker players play with real money was by Planet Poker in 1998.

If you haven’t had a chance to play them yet, there are plenty of advantages to playing poker online. In fact, the online poker areas today offer tons of different features that literally leaves you feeling like you want more. Just think about Chris Monemaker’s big WSOP win back in 2003. Did you know he got a spot in the big tournament because he won a satellite tourney on PokerStars?

Even though there is a lot online poker can offer you, there are some people who worry about the legalities. The truth is, online poker tournaments are all legal and have been regulated properly. Seriously, why would they try to cheat you or any other online player out of money?

The rake is the percentage of money each poker game hosts get from hosting the event and it is naturally capped at a certain amount. Each online poker host has their own structure for getting the rake.

However, there are those so called “unusual plays” that have a lot of people hesitate to get involved. We’ve all heard the stories about crazy bad beats, and even a long string of them. The good news is this easily explained. See, when you play online you are playing so many more hands than you would in real-life venues. So the chances of seeing some of the flops and winning hands are greater.

Another reason why some poker players do not like playing online is there is no chance to see your opponent face to face. The game of poker is actually a psychological game and some professionals feel that part of the game is lost in online poker.

You will not be able to see ?tells? from your opponents and this might be seen as a disadvantage, considering that you are betting blindly. You only get to decide based on your cards, the community cards and how much the other players are raising. Bluffing therefore is easy, and hard for other players to determine.

Regardless, playing poker online is very enjoyable to many and it’s exactly what they need to win. You still get those adrenaline rushes from a big win or when you out bluff your opponent. Plus, you don’t have to worry about trying to stay calm, keep from gulping, squinting or even smiling in the process.

What it comes down to is if you are looking for something to spice up your day at home or at work, playing poker online can definitely do it for you. Whether or not you play for real money is strictly up to you.

Inetbet is a successful and premier online poker, founded in 1999, offering the chance to play for money or to play for free to customers worldwide (including bettors in the US). Whether you are an experienced casino player or a novice, Inetbet is an online poker that will look afterall your betting requirements.
