The bottom of the barrel – The St. Louis Rams

Friday - November 20, 2009 | NFL | comment balloon Comments (0)

Can anything good be said about the St. Louis Rams? Any football fan would be hard pressed to find something positive about the miserable situation of the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams hit rock bottom in 08′ with a record of 2-14 — worse then the 07′ season when they went 3-13. The last winning season for the Rams was in 03′, they went 12-4 winning the NFC West division. If it wasn’t for the Detroit Lions, Oakland raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, the Rams would be the worst franchise of the last 5 years.

The St. Louis Rams have only scored 7 total points through the first two weeks of the 2009 football season. Having been blanked by the Seahawks in Seattle (28-0, couldn’t get much worse), the team traveled to Washington in week 2, carrying higher hopes.

QB Marc Bulger and Kyle Boller are nearly identical when it comes to their stats — which means it doesn’t really matter which is in the game because the chance of the Rams winning doesn’t improve.

Their defense isn’t much better, the Rams rank as one of the worst defense teams in the league and opponents on offense can do whatever they please.

The only player the Rams have worth the price of a ticket is RB Steven Jackson. Jackson is averaging nearly 5 yards per rushing attempt in 09′. Jackson’s best season up to this date was in 06′ when he rushed for over 1,500 yards and- touchdowns.

It’s safe to say the Rams will get a high draft pick in the 10′ draft. One could only wonder where the Rams should begin in rebuilding. Perhaps a young quarterback to build the franchise around. Steven Jackson isn’t getting any younger and it’s a shame his career is being wasted on a very bad team.

With nothing to lose, the Rams should draft a top quarterback in 2010, as their future may hinge on this position.
