Jay Cutler and the 2009 Chicago Bears

Thursday - November 5, 2009 | NFL | comment balloon Comments (0)

Chicago Bears have very high expectations for 09′ with the acquisition of Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos. Jay Cutler had a terrible first game as starting quarter back for the Bears, and many believed that if this continued the Bears would be no better then an 8-8 team.

Having acquired a stud quarterback in Jay Cutler, the Bears were ready to eliminate and overcome the one major question mark that may have weighed them down over the past few seasons.

Now with their franchise QB (hopefully for Bears fans’ sake) the Bears can score points on offense and compete in a division that is winnable for them.

The biggest obstacle the 2009 Bears may have faced was at the wide receiver position, but Devin Hester and Earl Bennett were adequate enough with the presence of Jay Cutler, not to mention Greg Olsen, a strong, developing force at the tight end position.

The Minnesota Vikings might be the favorite to come out of the NFC North – the Bears have a chance to be there as well at the end of the season. With the exception of facing the Detroit Lions, every game the Bears play against the Vikings and Green Bay Packers should be well contested.

WR Devin Hester must elevate his wide receiving skills to the same level his kick returning skills once were. Hester was one of the greatest return men of all time and if he could translate that to the wide receiver position, Cutler to Hester will be the norm all season.

RB Matt Forte will get the majority of the carries this season for the Bears. In this day and age in the NFL, typically one RB can not carry the entire load the whole season so look RB Garret Wolfe and RB Adrian Peterson to give Forte a break once awhile.

This is a make or break year really to know if WR Devin Hester will be a great receiver (if not now then when) or just another wide receiver. Hester can break any game wide open and cause trouble for any defense.
