Triple Crown
The Triple Crown is dominated by colts who show early brilliance, and the Classic by less precocious, more durable horses. The Triple Crown is contested on three different tracks at three different distances during a five-week period. The strain on the horses is enormous. The Triple Crown is the most supportive club for live music in town, with all the ambiance of the Austin Outhouse. The music is good–ranging from folk to blues, rock to country, and there are occasional belly dance shows.
The Triple Crown is three races in five weeks; many think that’s too demanding for the modern thoroughbred, seen as less durable than its ancestors. The Triple Crown is the most highly prized achievable offensive trophy in baseball. Granted, the Most Valuable Player Award is more commonly thought of as the top achievement; however, this is supposed to be an award for a player’s all-around contribution, not just hitting. The Triple Crown is such a rare event that it’s really not worth talking or even thinking about until the Derby and the Preakness are done. But as I don’t know an eighth as much on the subject as you do, I’d love to hear what you think about that.
Belmont was also quite involved in horse racing, and his imprint is even intertwined within the history of the Kentucky Derby. Belmont was even more dramatic than Preakness. They ran alongside for a while, occasionally trading leads.
Horses will have five weeks to rest and get ready for the last leg of the Triple Crown called Belmont Stakes. It is often called the “Test of the Champions” because of the long distance, 1 1/2 miles.
