NCAA News and Picks
The football schedule has great matchups this week, but even the biggest football fan will have at least one eye on the baseball diamond this week. The World Series opens Wednesday night with the Rockies in Boston to take on the Red Sox. Check SPORTSBETING.COM for lines and props on all the World Series action.
On to this week’s feature pigskin matchups.
NCAA ESPN Thursday Nighter
Boston College at Virginia Tech
BC +3 Over 43
Virginia Tech -3 Under 43
The Boston College Eagles are the first Top 5 BCS team (No. 2) to take the field this week and with the turbulent state of the BCS’ upper echelon, it’s not hard to see why they find themselves 3-point road ‘dogs at http://www.sportsbookwatch.com with only 45% support from the early money coming in from the betting public.
Despite BC’s lofty standing, Virginia Tech isn’t far behind (currently No. 8 in the BCS) and with a lot to gain you can bet the Hokies are looking to ground the Eagles and make a mercurial rise in the standings.
Boston College finds itself in a similar situation to last year’s matchup, where the Eagles covered as a 2½-point underdog against VT, although that game was played in the friendly confines of Alumni Stadium and not Blacksburg, Virginia.
The Eagles will want to maintain status quo while hoping for an Ohio State loss and the Hokies are hoping for a win against BC and the same for OSU.
Thursday night is going to be alright for a fight.
NFL Sunday Football
Washington Redskins at New England Patriots
‘Skins +16 Over 48
Pats -16 Under 48
The New England Patriots dismantled the the Miami Dolphins to up their record to 7-0 both SU and ATS and not surprisingly are getting 80% majority of the betting action so far.
New England’s next high profile matchup will be against the Indianapolis Colts in two weeks, a game that http://www.sportsbookwatch.com already has the line up for, and they have the Pats at -4, but in the meantime they face the Washington Redskins.
You can be sure that coach Belichick has his troops focused on the here-and-now and not the week after, but how can you concentrate on a Washington team when a match against the incomparable Peyton Manning and Colts looms on the horizon?
The Redskins are having a very respectable year overall, with an SU record of 4-2 nipping at the heals of the second place New York Giants, who have played one more game.
The ‘Skins don’t have nearly a good record against the number though, with a 2-2-2 record, most recently losing as a 9-point chalk against the Arizona Cardinals.
Will the Pats be caught seeing Indy blue when they should be focusing on Washington burgundy?
NFL Monday Nighter
Green Bay Packers at Denver Broncos
Packers +3 Over 41½
Broncos -3 Under 41½
Although the Denver Broncos pulled off an upset as 4-point underdogs against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week and although they are listed as a 3-point chalk this week, you might want to think long and hard before wagering against Brett Favre and his Packers.
Favre has been experiencing a bit of a renaissance of sorts this year with 1715 yards passing and 9 passing TDs at the halfway mark of the NFL season.
Complementing that, for Green Bay supporters, is the Pack’s 4-1-1 record against the number.
The amount of parity between both Denver and Green Bay might account for the 3-point line and a 50-50 split in the early betting action.
Week 8 in the NFL should end with a tightly contested battle.
